~Music: “Zephyr” by Don Grusin
Katrina’s tempest brewed in the Gulf coast and created violent cyclonic winds and flooding. Many families and pets were separated forever. Zephyr, my weimaraner, entered my life in the aftermath. His spontaneous enthusiasm was displayed bounding through waves and chasing cats and squirrels. Zephyr’s appetite for “good eats” directed his quest for ice cream, pecans, acorns, clams, cow patties, dead fish and bones.
Like a gentle cool breeze in the summer, Zephyr’s spirit was refreshing and fun. We had many adventures, especially on the coastal bend of Texas and along the Rio Grande in New Mexico, exploring the daily miracles in nature.
Now, Zephyr’s job as my co-pilot is complete and his cremains are with my other dogs among cedar-covered hill by a river with a heart. ~Mary E. Anderson, January 2014
